Default Running problems on my zzr 600

Hi i am new to this but have a problem i hope u can solve for me. I have a 1998 zzr600, i rode my bike a couple of weeks ago and it started to make a loud banging noise and it started to pull forward, i checked the bike over and found the sprokets and chain needed doing. Chain and sprokets are now done but the bike on the centre stand and in 2nd gear rides fine but every now and then the bike lurches forward and makes a banging noise then stops, couple of seconds later does it again. I asked a couple of garages they said it sounds expensive but never even heard the bike, one bloke said it could be the gear box or the cam chain, another bloke said it could be water in the carbs and it could be miss firing. Has anyone had this problem before. Thanks John

When was the engine oil changed and what are you using for engine oil. Is it within halfway of the sight glass. How did the oil look when you drained it? Welcome to KF

Hi the oil is the fully synthetic type a man in the bike shop told me it was ok and the oil came out thick black. The oil at the moment is just under the middle of the site glass and i have noticed a small puddle of oil from under the bike. Thanks

What type of synthetic oil are you running? Is your clutch cable and lever adjusted and operating properly? Not much information, but you could take a peek at your clutch easy enough.

so what were the compression checks and the leak down test numbers? There is some slop in there somewheres unless it is a bad carb settng in which you would have done a plug chop to rule out that issue.

That knocking when the engine is warm is bugging me. I am wondering if clearances are getting abit sloppy and maybe a heavier weight oil may keep things thickened up while warm (thinking out loud).....See what ya find out on the filter, oil change and plug inspection. good luck.
