Ok so i found a really nice bike for a great price but it has a lien on it. The seller was very upfront about it but i am wondering if anyone has any experince buying a vehicle with a lien on it? Specifically in michigan...

does the great price include the $ amount of the lein? basicly you have to pay off the lein to buy the bike.

 

UNless I am mistaken...that means the seller doesn't actually own the bike 100%.

So i've done a little research am i thinking this through correctly?

Any money i give him is supposed to be used to pay the person(s) he owes the money to. The danger is that if he doesn't the lien is not removed and i end up responsible for the lien amount.

Really there are three parties involved then...i need to go to the debt holder with him and make sure it is paid so they release the bike off of lien status?

 

yeah have all 3 parties involved simultaniously. then write ou the bill of sail stating what money is going to the lein holder to release the lean and have both of them sign it.
