fixin a crashed bike to stunt
hi all, i was lucky enough to grab a set of forks and a rear subframe for my old bike off of fleabay so i am gonna stuntit. i was wondering where to get the risers for the top trees to put a set of tube bars on my bike, she's a 98 zx6r, and if there are any other parts besides the obvious that i might need. i am going to build a set of crash bars and am a little weary about tryin to slap a 12 bar so i'm not sure if i'll make one of them yet[8D]any help is greatly appreciated

you can get a set of fat bar clamps from places like Roll Design http://www.rolldesign.com/parts/handlebar-clamps_45/
then drill out your top tree and mount them.

i have an odd trick for making 12-bars, but it works!!
i have a chain hoist in my shot. i strap the front end and hoist it up to b.p., then steady it with a tack welded bar that i had already fitted while the bike was on two wheels..
i do this sans tail fairings.. i c-clamp the flatstock right to the subframe, then adjust and tweak as needed.
i'll add a few more clamps, then loosen the tension on my hoist to "tune" the t-bar's balancing ability, and how much load is on it, as well as absolute bike position.
i mark off the bolt holes, where the structural points are, where i can and can't bolt to (try to have at least 2 on each side) and i make x and y reference lines to put the bar back in place perfectly when removed for drilling and final weld.
note.. don't weld stuff with the battery connected!!!
i do this AND remove the ECU completely when mocking up subties, cages and 12-bars. don't want to tell the customer i fried his computer...
that means at LEAST a free cage on my part.. lol.. F that.
any help needed, lemme know. sounds a lil complicated.. i won't lie. it is.. you may want another person around to steady the bike while hoisting it up! safety first man..

go to any dealer and pick up a parts unlimited dirtbike book, and go to the handlebar and control section. they have tag bar clamps or moose bar clamps for like 50 bucks. i'm sure rolldesigns stuff is stupid expensive, and if your a stunter your probly on a budget cuz most of us are. i dont use dirtbars cuz then you'll need longer cables and lines and all. better off gettin a set of vortex bars and flipping them so they come up instead of down and mount them a lot straighter, its basically the same as a db bar setup. what bike are you stunting?

she's a 98 zx6r. i got the rear subframe on her now. just gotta get the forks on it. she runs which is crazy. hit the ditch at an amazing speed. glad the rider was ok. broken arm, 2 surgeries on his knee and rash here and there. lucky dude

got the forks on, wheelied her down the street naked. MAN was i happy. no front fender on it either so it looks funny when u bring it up. i had to make a steering stop because the original was smashed off in the accident. i just bolted a piece of 3/8" flatbar to the upper stay (for gages) and welded another piece to the bottom to get approx the right width. works ok for now. i am by no means a stunter...but i would REALLY like to be able to wheelie slow at 10 o'clock or so and do some serious stand ups...that is the immediate goal. baby steps lol. and thanx for the info whitehendrix and everone else. i think i might just stick with my clip ons for now...they're free. now i get to wrestle a busted slider bolt outta the frame before i can tackle the cage.
