Ira and Alicia Race Report
This all starts on a rainy April 21st, Funny Car Fever. We qualified but before we could start eliminations the rain came and the race was postponed until May 5th.
[ol][*]On April 25th we raced in the Wednesday night fun drags and my bike is still sputtering just a bit so the following weekend we lean the jets.[*]On May 2nd we run in the Wednesday night fun drags again to test the adjustments and my bike puts down a 11.75 for the first time! I lost because I break out on a 11.90 dial in but I am thrilled to have the bike running good. Ira wins the race![*]May 5th we have a regularly scheduled race and on top of that a make up race for April 21st. The cross winds are too strong to run 1/4 mile so the track officials have us run 1/8 mile.[*]Racing does not start until 2pm because of the Jr. Drags.[/ol]We qualify--Ira is cutting great lights but I am struggling because I just got a brand new suit and it is not broke in yet. Ira is 3rd best qualifier in the field and I am last.
So we race and we are both taken out in the first round. I only lost by .044 Margin of Victory. I cut a good light and ran close to my number but my opponet was dead nuts on his number. Ira lost because he took a stab at the tree and he redlit .016 Oh well so we wait for the make up race.
In the next race we did not even get another qualifying run because of time constraints. So we have to dial off our last race. I decided to stay with my dial in and took out the guy who is in third place in points. Ira take outs his opponent too who was runner up in the previous race.
Now we are laddered off our reaction times and I have to take down someone who is virtually unbeatable he is number one in points for the season. No worries I go into a deep mediatation and think just about cutting a good light and running my number. Ira gets the bye in this round so he has no opponent.
Well I took the guy out he forgot to turn his gas on and ran out before the 60' line but regardless I ran a 7.955 on a 7.95 dial-in and my light was a .072 to his .070. So even if he ran he would have had to be within .007 of his dial-in. I am pretty sure I would have won either way.
Even though Ira had the bye he ran a 6.732 on a 6.73 dial- in with a .044 light.
Now me and Ira are in the finals. Ira runs a 6.86 on a 6.73 dial in and cuts a .047 light. I run a 8.03 on a 7.95 but light sucks at .119. Ira takes the win! I still get 2nd place! We won $300 between us, tshirts, trophies and Summit Series hats but best of all we won major bragging rights
Because of the double header we don't leave the track until almost midnight.
Only 2 races left in the season and we can't wait!
