Thanks, based on the desigb of tjis particular model, i cannot get the airbox out before taking the carb assembly out... I think I have to remove the carb rubber boot connnection to the airbox first, then hopefully slide the carbs out of the engin boot connector, then take the airbox out...

Thats odd. Maybe try posting to the general forum to ask how it is done but generally taking the airbox off then carbs is pretty universal! Let me know what you find out.

Default Airhox removal on 1984 ZN750a

I definitely will let you know. I thought it was odd as well but is is wedged between the frame and the carbs on this bike. I don't see any way to take it out before taking the carbs out...

Hi KZO. Just a quick update. I finally got the carbs out yesterday. Had to soften boots on airbox side with hairdryer. Once those were off, followed your advise and had to work on the engine side ones... Airbox came out easily after that. Can you help with next steps? Do you know if I can get to the cylinder without taking the engin out?

You're trying to get to the engine cylinders? Might be able to be done without taking the engine out but will probably be much easier if you do.

Tinker with your bike, make mistakes, its how you learn. Watch lots of Youtube.

Thanks KZO. Yeah I am trying to assess if there are any issues with the cylinders and pistons. The previous owner seemed to think work on the piston rings was done incorrectly at some point. He didn't know if the bike ran with this issue or if it simply was re-assembled and left. I did find some good videos of a guy who documented a full restoration... Lots of "episodes" on taking the engine apart... I gather the key is to keep tension on the cam chain while getting to the pistons and cylinders... That alone was a tip worth its weight in gold! I keep forgetting to document and post my progress... I'll catch up on this... Cheers!
