2009 Kawasaki KLX250S in Minnesota
Edit: No longer for sale.
I've been pondering this sale for a long time, and I've come to the conclusion that it's time to let go of my trusty 2009 KLX250S to fund another purchase. It has been a great bike for me, but I've decided to get a more serious dirt bike.
I bought this bike new off the showroom floor in July 2010. Its primary role has been commuter bike on 55mph state and county paved and gravel roads, accounting for the vast majority (>90%) of the 11,280 miles on the clock. When not commuting, I've used it for day trip dual sport rides, which are a mix of pavement, gravel, two track trail, and a rare bit of single track.
Cosmetically I'd say it's in good shape, but please note that it has been used in the dirt and woods, where it has been dropped on the ground, scraped through the brush, and hit by rocks and tree limbs. It's not beat to hell, but it is not a museum piece...it's probably what you'd call a "20 footer." I'll post some pictures soon.
I've performed 100% of the maintenance on this bike. The valves were checked at 7407 miles; the right exhaust was slightly tighter than spec and the other three valves were in spec; I adjusted all four valves to the loose end of spec. Next valve check will be due at 15,000 miles.
I've replaced the shift star with the updated part from Kawasaki, so no worries there. If you're not familiar, the 2009 & 2010 models are notorious for breaking pins off of the shift star due to design/manufacturing flaw. With the updated part, this is no longer a concern.
I rejetted the carb using genuine Keihin jets and N1TC needle.
It has the Krieger manual cam chain tensioner, as the OEM part was not keeping proper tension..
It has Kenda K270 rear tire and K760 front, with maybe 1000 miles on them (I usually get 4000 and 3000 miles out of this combo).
New x-ring chain and sprockets were installed less than 1000 miles ago. Gearing is 14/47.
Other aftermarket/non-stock parts currently on the bike to be included in sale:
Renthal aluminum bars
Moose aluminum barkbusters
Acerbis 3.7 gallon tank, black
Utah Riccochet skid plate
KLX300R exhaust system, with OEM Muffler and aftermarket header (Four Stroke Works or Stroker, I'm not sure which)
Motion pro Vortex 1/4 turn throttle
KLX450R start and kill buttons (this was done to eliminate the stock integrated throttle/switch housing, to allow installation of the Vortex throttle, and give more flexibility in placement on the bike).
Price in it's current configuration is $3095. Current MN tags are good until March 2014. It's in Two Harbors, MN.
Here are some pics. It turns out I don't have any great pics of the bike itself right now; and it's wintering in the depths of the garage...I'll get fresh pics when I get a chance.
These pics are pretty much what it looks like now, except the skid plate and aftermarket header are not installed in the pictures. And it's dustier right now than in the pics. I'll be keeping the box and saddlebags, but I'll reinstall the OEM fender bag. Oh yeah, note in the second picture, the left rear turn signal is broken off. Easy to replace, but I don't have the part.
This is what it looked like with the stock tank and shrouds. I still have them, if the buyer prefers stock over the big Acerbis tank.
