accidents happen fast and you don't know where the vehicles are going to end up after a colission - movign could end up worse than staying still.

You guys are fooling yourselves if you think you can predict where you need to be in the split second you have to 1 - even realize what is happening, 2 - judge that you are in danger of being hit based on the motions of the vehicles around you, 3 - find a safe exit from where you are at, and 4 - turn those thoughts into actions to move you out of the way and into a safe place. Depending on the situation that might be only a few tenths of a second, if that. Most people can't even get their bikes rolling a few feet in that amount of time from a stopped position in a casual riding environment like commuting. A lot of people like to think they've ridden all those miles and survived because of their sixth sense and lightning fast reflexes, reality is that most have survived on chance and dumb luck.

Think about this dude - do you think he saw it coming? And this was low speed at a 90 degree angle, well within his peripheral vision. (the guy is OK, not too graphic)

Honestly, if i was on a bike in my exact position I do believe i could have gotten out of the way, even if it was just drop the bike and jump off... i am very good at just looking at situations and just reacting, not thinking.... wheni saw that car in a split second, i knew they were gonna hit and probably hit me, and also know that if i tried to pull out and turn right she would have hit me too, and knew i couldnt back up cause i knew someone was on my bumper... it is what it is now....

 

i think its better to move, id rather chance getting hit than just sit there and accacpt my fate.
