I'm not 100% sure exactly what type she is. I would say Colombian red tail when compared with pics of other boas. Strange thing about kitty is that her belly has a light pink'ish salmon color which I've never seen on other boas.

pink on the belly sounds to me like a columbian. mine is a central american and does not have any pink on him. and the browns are a little different shade than yours. i think your right yours is a columbian.

Kitty is gorgeous. Lovely snake! I don't have one of my own, but has a friend who's a herpetologist. (sp?)

I'm a rat enthusiast, and ironically, so is she. She has her own pet rats, and doesn't have them nuetered. She allows them to breed to provide nourishment for her snakes. I might sound strange, or hypocritical, but I find no problem with this. I make a distinction between what you will love and cherish as a pet as opposed to food. I understand humans who keep chickens, goats, even cows, ect, as companion animals, but I still enjoy my red meat, and my buffalo wings, so who am I to judge, right?

I don't think you're de-sensitized--just being practical, and sharing a gross-out moment. Rats are feral, basic animals until they're domesticated. Once they are, they're fabulous pets, and I can rant about that for hours, but no worries about a young, snarling rat that you render incapable of hurting your beloved Kitty. I've tried to help friends with feral rats before, and I lost a cartilage piercing from one experience (and suffered a bad infection; only recently has the knotted scar tissue gone away). This feral rat was basically acting all lovely and cuddly, bruxing and whatnot, but when she crawled onto my shoulder, she smelled the fresh piercing and ripped my stud out. They can hurt like a bitch.

Wish you & Kitty the best!
