Default knowledge on jetting

I am looking into jetting my 01 zx7. I have read all of the forums on the mods and parts that need to be removed when installingjets. My biggest question, is there is an actual advantage of going with a jet kit? I know that the jet kits are actually smaller than the stock jets. Will I notice a performance upgrade and how will it effect my gas mileage? I have read that Ivans is the better kits.

Ivan knows his stuff. At what ambient temps are you normally running the ride at and what are you expecting? Smaller does not mean slower, it just means optimizing what the package(the ride)is needing. I pressed some shims for the needles ('90)and was happy with that at sea level. Not saying that there is a better or worse way on playing with the carbs. But that worked for me. Get a feel for the girland know what you want.

I'm looking for faster acceleration. I realize that smaller doesn't meanslower when it comes to jet sizes. I live around the Kansas City area and temp ranges from 75 degrees in the morning to 95 degrees in the afternoon.I commute 90 miles everyday and do not want to hurt my gas mileage. I am also looking into different sprockets for faster acceleration and easier wheelies. Any input would be great.

Kind of a catch 22 in that quote. You want mileage but yet you want to gear the ride down. Where in the throttle/load range are you having issues?

Doesn't everyone want the best of both worlds? On take offs is my biggest issue. Once I get up to speed I'm fine, but out of the hole the bike seems sluggish.

Shim the stock needles and adjust your low speed circuit. (If you are 100% happy that the carbs and float levels are perfectly clean and adjusted. Re synch too). Works for my purposes. Call Muzzy on the shim thickness as I am still trying to find my manual with all of my notes.)

Once I get up to speed I'm fine, but out of the hole the bike seems sluggish.

Go with Ivan, how he tells you to set up your bike will probably be spot on. He know his stuff.
