Default buy used or rebuild-alternator?

90 H2 with 21000 mi.and my alternator belt snapped and killed my batt. Now the after installation there is no key off draw but the batt won't keep a charge. So the bike shop says the alternator is drawing 6v. So it's either a 200$ used alt. or try a rebuild... Any suggestions?? thanks, e

hmm, a bad bearing on the alternator cause the belt to snap? They go bad by themselves (the belt). Your ground is good and you are confident with your new battery?

The belt was old and fraying before it snapped and I think the belt dressing gave her the edge to snap LOL. I took the alternator to the shop and the guy said it looked good and I explained whats going on and he mentioned that it sounds like a regulator. I pulled up a micro-fische and I see that my bike has a rectifier outside of the alternator too. I'm going to look into it today. The ground should be good I'll check it too, as for the batt. it's brand new from the bike shop.

Sounds like progress. Not many people know that the zx7 has an alternator belt. In fact I did not know until after afew yrs of owning my zx7.

I'm glad I know what I'm doing because I found my key off drain from the alternator and had to put in a switch for now.The shop offers"Trained Technicians" LOL
