ORIGINAL: Dragone#19

but there is a plastic cover over the engine. I did seal the airbox down to the frame and popped the grommets out of the airbox. I did not dyno it so cannot prove anything. But 156mph on radar in 5th gear is not bad. '90 zx7 here of course you guys already knew that. lol
over your engine? over zx7r engines in general? seal the airbox down? grommets? i'm not sure of the point of any of those mods... i need more explaining or pix.

maybe the 90 is that much different (which it supposedly is) that that's what's hindering my understanding.

that airtech link with the piece of plastic... where does it go? EDIT: just looked at their site to find out... does it completely replace the airbox? seal it somehow? it's bothersome when there is no real way to see mounting procedures or finished product.

I called airtech and they stated that the plastic piece you have to drill holes for the carbuators. The tank seals with a little help of rubber around the tank. they estimate 10-15 hp increase. I dont know if it is true or not, but i will let you know because I will fabricate my own version of the ram air. I just got a digital camera, so i will be able to take more pic of what i am doing. I will post pics ASAP and I will do a dyno before and after.

so, does that piece include a scoop (maybe on the left side of the pic) that pulls in the air from the front of the bike? cuz if not i wouldn't consider it ram air. all it really talks about is a pressurized airbox... could be constrewed as a ram air.

resealing the tank every time you take the tank off could be a drag unless it utilizes some sort of a dry foam rubber strip like in a car window.

heffay, I used plain old stick backed foam window seal on the frame. The tank rests on that. Not officially ram air, but is better than stock.

The plastic shield is plastic with rubber seals on the edges. That is covering the valve covers. Who wants the added heat into the a/f right?

heffay, if I did? I also was not just playing with just one thing and seeing how that one item worked out. Slotted cams, overbore, shimming needles and trying to pick up more cool air happened in the same winter. lol So will say that I am not sure if the sealed box was the key or the other mods.
