Yes, connecting rod. Check the bearings at the crank on the connecting rod. Pull and push on the rod up & down to see if it's loose. Het the head back and check it yourself like I suggested.

knock + low compression+ oil in exhaust+bottom end is solid to me says that you have a valve problem, possibly a bend valve, worn valve guide will cause the oil leak, any valve damage at all can cause it to not seat properly killing compression along with making a rapping noise when running.
could also be a stuck lifter not letting the valve close all the way.

You can get plasti-gage at auto parts stores to check bearing clearances. Do you have metal/ aluminumparticles/ flakes/shavings in the oil?
