Its hard to say with out riding it.
When you get the chance to ride and learn your ride, I think a damper is just a band aide. spend the money on suspension and tires. My opinion of course.

Without my "baind aide" my bike would have been totaled on two separate occasions (that I know of that I put it to use). So it was well worth my 400 bucks...

Gotrice, what new bike did you get?

Re steering damper: the 03-04's need them but the 05-06 can go without although it's a good safety device. With a tank slapper, the best thing to do is take your hads off the handlebars and the bike will straighten up. If you try to hang on the bars of try to stop the tankslapper, it will only get worse bacause you cannot react fast enough to correct it and you will crash! It's mentally very hard to take your hand off the bars when this is happenning, but it works (I've saved myself & the bike from crashing during a race & also street riding.).

Man I feel stupid. what is the steering dampner supposed to do really? Just make it harder to turn the handle bars or what?
