Here is a pic...it is a 2005 zx6r 636
edit...just looked at bikebandit and it seems to be a motor that connects a cable to the old stock muffler...what in the world was that for...the bike came with aftermarket

That is the servo setup for noise regulations in the stock exhaust setup. If you remove that, then an FI light will blink on your dash unless you go to a kit ecu or ivans plug. Not sure on what it was called now. But it is in the KF forums to do a search for. I would prefer to go the kit ecu route and go for a tune since you have the aftermarket exhaust. Good luck with the new ride.

They use them to increase midrange power and regulate noise output for DOT regs, and is the source of the "Jumper mod"on newer kawi's. I believe they called it a power valve, even though it restricted power on the top end...

both are correct, it is already an aftermarket one you have, must have bought the bike with an exhaust on it.
if you look close the octagon one under the cheap looking piece of steel is the oem piece, the after market one "simulates" the butterly valve in the exhaust.
nothing to worry about since it has been upgraded as much as you can with those
