truth about sliders?

RE: truth about sliders?
I was showing Speedracer my bike after my accident. I dont' remember what brand I picked up by you can see from my pic where my sliders were located. I will not make that mistake again, I'm picking up the ones he's got on his bike. Bike isn't too bad for 35mph (not fast enough, but fast enough at the same time lol)

RE: truth about sliders?
Hey so my frame slider is where your are littledevil, its attatched to the engine mount. I'd rather it be there that cut into my fareings, if thats what you guys mean. I can take a picture I guess later if you want. I havent replaced my puck and I dont plan on it anytime soon, even though I know I should or $20, I need to take it off and bend the mount back. But I dont know how to do that, I'm guessing I need a flame torch to heat it up to bend it back?. I just use the bike for school. BUt if you want a pic i can do it later.

RE: truth about sliders?
Your sliders are in the place I should have had mine. If you look right above where yours are located, that hole in the fairing, that's where mine were, and see, it' cracked the fairing and the stupid bolt is still in the bike..lol
Your are in a good place Funkdock

RE: truth about sliders?
Funkdock, Is the frame mount bent or just the slider spacer bolt? Also, if the frame mount is bent, just get it welded and redrilled instead of straightening it with a torch. It mar get too brittle and break. I am surprized that it bent the frame mount.

RE: truth about sliders?
thats a good question. Now that i think about it and look at the picture again, I think that it is probably the engine mount bolt. If the engine mount was bent then it would be visible in the picture as well. Hmm...I really just planned on leaving it alone untill I get the time to get it fixed. Being that I only use it for school, I'm not overly worried. I know better safe then srry

RE: truth about sliders?
The truth is that cut, if you have too, frame sliders that mount directly to your engine mounts with out some little thing to relocate it, will and do hold up the best.
The no cut sliders that have the offset piece, which is just added leverage and unneeded add stress on the frame sliders, WILL FAIL. No if and or butts about it.
Some people have shorter sliders that offer less protection but they still do there job quite well and that is to protect the frame. They are not there to save your plastic body work and will not. They will however minimize the damage to the body work.
On my last 60 mph get off the bike received minimal damage to the body work and no frame or swing arm damage.
A lot of bikes do not have to cut the plastics but some do, if yours does then get a 25.00 dremal and cut it. It is not that hard and the slider looks good coming through the plastic anyway.
Good luck and ride safe.
