Default Testing the limits

Is it just me (since I'm a new rider) or does everyone feel the urge to test the limits of their bike? I feel the urge everytime I'm on her, I know what she can do and I feel like I'm holding her back. Don't get me wrong, I'm not stupid enough to do anything that will get anyone else hurt, I couldn't live with that knowledge. I obey the traffic laws (as best as I can). But is there a problem with going ***** out on a lonely strech of road where the only casuality will be you? After all isn't it the element of danger that attracts us to riding in the first place? I do agree with SPEEDRACER, " One more VERY IMPORTANT WARNING! STREET RACING CAN GET YOU OR SOMEONE KILLED!" I just wanted to see if I were the only one feeling this way? I'm moving back to San Diego in 2 months, I'll be closer to a track then.

Go to the Drag strip and do some track days. You'll find out that you can only reach your limits, not the bikes. The Hayden brother can almost reach the bikes limits. Maybe Rossi.

I agree Speedracer, thats why I can't wait to get back to San Diego. It's funny, before I got her, my friends tried to convince me that a 600 would be too small for me. That I would out grow her in about 6 months. I know I made the right decision, I couldn't imagine zipping though traffic with a 750 or 1000 without an outlet. The 600 feels like you threw a saddle on a rocket sometimes, I can only guess what a 750 or 1000 would feel like. I have crazy respect for people who can control... no stay in control with that much power. I think it would be like that ring in the "Lord of the Rings" for me.[sm=badbadbad.gif]

Just like when I take my guns out and go shooting. I know my guns can out shoot me, and I know that my bike WILL def. out ride me! Ya know what... I'm just fine with that too!

I agree, but one thing Ive learned from riding dirt for many years and now street is knowing YOUR limits first, then the limits of the bike second....the bike is ALWAYS willing to open up to 150+ MPH, but are you? If you ARENT ready to do it, then DONT do it. Also pick you places...Ive found some nice open roads with no houses and not much traffic, where I can rip outta twisties lifting the front tire, and ripping up to 100 quickly. Its all about knowing what YOU are capable of doing first..JMO

time and place for all. the key is to be smart enough to know when and where. track is always better, but i have done the same on the road when the time and place were good

You're both absolutely right. Gotta respect the bike, your surroundings and your abilities; and be prepared for the unexpected. i.e. car pulling out of a driveway, Dog running across the road, etc. (Here in Texas, we have coyotes, armadillos & possums.) I have seen all three in one night plus the car.
