Swapping Motors

Swapping Motors
Well my motor is shot! (95ZX6) So instead of rebuilding it I am thinking of just replacing it with another. I have found another motor, the exact motor with only about 8K miles. It doesn't come with carbs, but I can just tansfer mine to this one. I am decent at most mechanical things....my question is, has anyone swapped motors before that would give me any advice before swapping?

RE: Swapping Motors
I have not swapped engines before, but I have yanked out my zx7's engine 3 times.
I like labeling what bolts and hoses go where, and keeping my locktite and torque numbers handy. I used a cherry picker with tie down straps to keep the frame high and a good floor jack to support the engine and to roll it out from under the ride.

RE: Swapping Motors
First get a servicemanual. Get a bunch of ziplok bags, some masking tape & a sharpie and mark & labe everything. You can also get a digital camera and take picures of the before and after you remove each major component. Be sure to drain all the fluids overnightfirst or you'll be working in a mess. Also it will make the motor that much lighter to handle without slipping & sliding in oil & coolant when you're trying to carry or move it. Have lots of rags handy. A helper maybe needed when you get ready remove the engine.
