Suspension tweak '03 zx6rr
new to the game here, tonite will be my fourth time out and i can see considerable improvement in my riding. Not an aggressive driver as of yet, but building confidence in my abilities just to keep the rubber side down and avoiding trouble. Anyway, ive read the suspension tuning article from sportbike, but didnt find a suggested setup for the 03. How does that suggested setup work for all weight classes? They had one for the 04 zx6rr and 03 zx6r, but no 03 zx6rr. I am 215 with no gear on, 220+ with gear. Non aggressive riding style, no track yet, lookin for a chart with some numbers that could get me in a ballpark range of where i should be. Im almost positive the settings are at default for the 150 lb rider.
thx

The 03/04's were very stiff sprung so it has a lot of preload already. They are setup stiff for the track but for street riding they're too stiff. They recommend a softer spring or the preload backed out all the way to the minimum on the rear shock.
I'll try to post it asap. It's just baseline settings; you should set your sag/ preload before making any other adjustments. I had posted it but can't find it in the threads. Try searching these forum threads. You can also try asking here: http://www.superbikeschool.com/bbs/
These are just reference settings. Your settings will depend on your weight with gear, the type of tires, and your riding style. You will have to experiment with what feels & handles good.

so does the stiff stock setup apply to the sag as well, or is this set at the default for a 150 lber? This stiff setting would almost benefit a heavier rider on the street? ill have to reference the manual and do more homework. thanks for the replies

Once you have set your sag your sag set your suspension will be set for your weight and will be operating at its optimum range. This is to say that now your suspension has the greatest range of motion for compression and rebound to work properly.
After that you can make adjustments to quicken or slow the rate of rebound or compression and make it a little stiffer or softer.
If you want to make adjustments do them one at a time and keep a record of your starting point and the changes made. Also good info for future reference.

ok so im gonna roudn up a few friends to help make these adjustments, so if i follow the basic sag and spring setup according to that link i should be ok with my suspension to weight ratio?
also their adjustment numbers have 15-20mm of play "depending on tuning strategy and bike model", shoudl i follow the manual to get these ideal numbers, i have been riding street only so what tuning strategy should i be going for, the lower end of the spectrum?

Here you go. I finally found it; forgot where I saw this. Anyway, it's just a baseline setting and your's may be different depending on your weight, tires, riding style etc. Set up your sag first, then try these settings.
