Default Sprocket replacement

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather.

I recently bought a 2001 ZX6R from a friend. I am a college kid and don't have the tools or space up here to preform any maintenance so I dropped the bike off at a local shop to have the oil changed and chain tighted. I know my buddy didn't beat on it too bad but I'm also pretty sure that he neglected routine maintenance. (when i picked the bike up the chain was pretty loose and bone-dry)

The technition looked it over when I brought it in and said it would need new sprockets because the chain was so bad. The bike has over 25000 miles on it, has been slightly geared down (up front) and, like i said, has probably been pretty neglected in terms of service. That said, I was still surprised to hear that it needed new sprockets simply because of a bad chain. I have no experience with the shop so I have no reason to believe they are either honest or dishonest.

Is it pretty believable that the sprockets would need to be replaced or are they scheming?
He also mentioned somthing about the front brake pads and fork alignment.

Any info or opinions is appriciated.

It is possible the due to the chain being worn, the sprockets can be also and vice versa. Take a picture or the sprockets and post it so we can see. Usually if the teeth are rounded, sharp & pointed or bent over (like waves) they need replacing. You can check the pads yourself and the alignment would be off if the bike was crashed. Get a manual. If you take it to the dealer un-informed, they will rip you off. I used to align forks with a narrow piece of flat glass placed across the fork tubes. Another Method:Loosen the lower axle, pinch bolts and the upper triple clamp center nut & pinch bolts, align the front end by bouncing the front of the bike up & down a few timesusing the brake applied, then let it ease up & tighten everything. It should all self align unless something is bent.

If you need sprocket & a chain, get in on the groupbuy we are doing for the Tri-Metal Sprocket & chain kit.

I got it back from the shop today. The old sprockets look pretty bad so I think it was (beyond) their time to be replaced. Here are some pics of them:

Yeah they're gone especially the rear. See what I mean about the teeth looking like waves cresting. Did you call Chad for the sprockets or is the dealer getting it?

I just ended up having the dealer order them. I had already dropped the bike off when you mentioned the group buy.

The bike has some (much) smaller than stock front signals and he said he couldn't inspect it because of them. I was under the impression bikes don't even need front signals. I know most people with ninjas mess around with the directionals in some way so how do you get your bikes inspected?

What do you need to inspect? The turn signals them self? or just in general? They should be able to inspect the voltage to the signals maybe not the bulb. Do you have a pic we here might be able to help you out.
