No you do not have to replace your chain when changing sprockets. You do how ever have to be getting the same 520 or 530 size sprocket so ever thing matches.

Some changes require you to add or lose links in your chain so you would need a chain cutter and the tool to reattach your links.

9.90s is a 1981 berlinetta camaro with a 434ci small block that 13.5:1compression with a 10.5 tire and the 8.70s is a 2001 camaro z28 with a 383stroker and a BDS alcohol injected blower with 15lbs of boost and a 150nos shot.. i'll take some good pics and post them soon
