leaking from the throttle springs just seaped down on them.
You mean that the springs are causing the wear in the boots? Ok replace the boot/boots and reclean the carbs. but.....
I was thinking that you had more things happening like the oily/varnish whatever? sludging its waythrough the crack/hole? True, do one step at a time

the springs are not rubbing the boots. all 4 of the carbs are connected by a alxe thing that controls the throttle blads. inbetween each carb has a spring. doesnt the gas varnish seap through thethrottle blade axles? the sludge im talking about is really mearly dirt and dust accumulation on the sticky surface of the gas varnish. The leak in my one boot is a hole or crack from the clamp cutting into the rubber boot.

is it normal for the gas varnish to seap through the throttle bladeaxles over time??

I have never taken off the carbs before. Is it somthign i wanna leave to professionals or is it easy to do. can they be taken out in the group of 4 with little work or will syncronization get messed up. Im mearly trying to establish weather i should attemt it or not. i have to take them out to replace the boot. and i figure ill clean them as well.
so has anyone attemped it. im scared to mess with carbs

They come off the bike easily as a group of 4. Deffinently a project you can do yourself. They can be cleaned and reinstalled with the new boot.
