Default Rear Shock Removal

I am trying to drop the rear shock so I can add some shims.

I got the nut off the top and the bike off the ground but something in not letting the rear wheel drop down enough to allow the thread on the clevis to clear the mount. It gets half way down and stops.

Has anyone dropped the rear shock to add shims or removed the rear shock?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am still waiting on my service manual to come in the mail so I cannot refer to it.

Thanks

Yea I know what you are saying. I guess I am just being lazy and was hoping it would drop down enough by just removing the bolt enough to slip the shims on.

i guess it is true when they say nothing worthwhile is easy.
