ouch, normally a chain failure or crash is the prob not the engine blowing up!

Yes, it was definitely an engine internal failure. Pistons I believe.

I had put some castrol fully synthetic oil 10x40 and it seems to shift harder now. anyone have suggestions for something better? i want to put mobil 1 in it but i can't find a dealer that sells it specifically for motorcycles. i was also thinking of trying out 20x40 but i don't know if that's too thick

I use Mobile 1 10w40. The bike shifts well and hasn't consumed any oil yet. I bought it at walmart so i would check there before searching further for a dealer that sells it. I'm sure dlr markup on Mobile 1 is significantly higher than at wally-world.

There's a sticker near the oil window that specifies how much oil add depending on the scenario (i.e. fully drained, filter still on, etc) so that takes the guess work out of it.

dont forget the proper torque on the filter. i think it is 22 or 23. safety wire is a good idea too. k&n filter has the hole for it and the bolt head to torque.
i think the oil drain is 22 and filter 23. just did mine last weekend.

only removed black lower fairing left side. easy access to the filter. dont forget to lube the rubber on the filter.

hahaha, that is deff a newbie question. I also take it you do not have a manual to play with your ride? The oil filler is on the right case. Has a ****/handle on it. The sight glass will be underneath it. Only fill 1/2 or where the lines are on the sight glass. Get a manual if you plan on playing with your toys.

edit: Ouch, that sounded harsh. Get your basics down and all is well.
