Power Commander Necessary?

RE: Power Commander Necessary?
I'm not an expert, I've just asked this question a lot. Variances allowed due to a million different models of slip-ons, basically if you put on just a slip on it will not hurt the bike. Alone it will definitely adjust the tone, but you're not getting everything out of it. Another thing to consider is intake as well. Generally when you get the slipon, you pickup a "performance air filter" and a power-commander. High air flow doesn't always mean best results either. Check out what other people who already have that pipe and what kind of gains they got with what equipment. I guess to get back to your actual question, it won't hurt the bike but it's like running a sprint in cement shoes. You can do it, but it's not the best method and you're not going to be at your full potential. Just my opinion[sm=usa.gif]

Yes, but a PCIII will benefit your bike in being able to run different maps or a custom map to get the most horsepower out of it. The Slip-Ons provide a much better Air-Flow and especially if you get a K&N or BMC Air filter, you should get a PCIII IMO. You can also use a map to provide you the best powerband for your riding style. The guy that tunes my PCIII Map used aa available MAP that gave the most amount of Mid-range HP & Torque, and just so happened to produce the most top-end HP also. If I had a custom MAP, I could get more power.

BMC or K&N will improve the performance but not the life of the engine. The whole reason it flows freer is to allow more air with less restriction, and with more air comes in more dirt/ dust. All the really fine stuff the stock air filter stops will go through the K&N or BMC. You can see light through those. And airflow follows the path of least resistance. As long as you dont mind rebuilding your engine sooner and changing the oil & filter more often than recommended.
