Plug wires and coils?? WTH? BACKFIRE...
Well After a great, reliable last riding season I put the bike up around christmas and let the beast hibernate.. I went to start the bike up this weekend and she wouldn't go.. I charged the battery and all it would do was backfire.. LOUDLY.
I pulled the plugs today, they were soaked.. Not a biggie, I will replace them, but the problem is 2 of the plug wires broke off at the boot upon removal... It appears that the dealer only offers the coils as a set with the wires.. is that true?? I am going to have to put $600 into the bike just to put wires on it??
I have removed the body to paint the bike, but need to get these coil wires.. Is there a way to repair these? or am I stuck dumping $600 into this thing??

Hey man
sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what your coil towers look like but if there similar to a car MSD sells bulk wire and different ends that you can krimp on them http://www.shopatron.com/product/pro...MSD34039/424.0
if you go to sparkplug accessories you can look at all the different boots too

Well I just screwed them back on as it appears that they screw in.. Not the best design in my opinion.. They had some corrosion on the ends so I sprayed them with WD40 and I guess I am going to jam a little dialectric grease in there.. I really don't trust the screw in style, it just kinda jams in there and twists around the wires...

They are stripped and the lips are polished.. The centers are painted silver, they will probably be painted the same color as the bike, after I choose the color..

It may not be the ignition system. Probably the carbs need to be cleaned out. Maybe the float valves are stuck open and letting too much fuel in to the cylinders which may explain the backfire & wet plug.

I think I was cranking it too long on a low battery... The carbs on it are brand new last season so I doubt they are stuck.. I tried cranking it for a long time and like an idiot for a little while with the throttle open..
I was just looking at replacing the wires while I had the plugs out. But if I would have to replace the coils again.... I think not..lol
