Default is this ok for a front stand?

i have an extra rear stand laying around and wondering if i were to stick a 5/8" rod through the front axle and used the rear stand to lift the front, is this bad for anything?

seems pretty sturdy, any thoughts?

You don't want to lift a bike by the front axle. Due the the steep rake of the forks, you put a ton of strain on the fork tubes, triple clamps, and all associated hardware. It would be better to just fabricate an arm that can attach to the stand and connect to the steering bolt hole like a normal front stand.

Sound like it would work fine. The front stand I have works on the same priciple except it fits in the holes in the bottom of the forks. Only problem is that you won't be able to remove the front wheel. I wouldn't worry about the force on the front end either because doing a stoppie puts WAY MORE force on it. Even braking puts tremendous amounts of force on the front steering stem/ frame without bending it. Sound like you have a dual-purpose stand now; great idea!

/\ exactly, but what would be the purpose of getting the front end up with it on the stand like that ? the more i think about it, it would work, i still wouldnt do it because why (revert to first question)and from what 05zx is saying, theres a ton of stress on the bike as it sits now and everything it does is bad. weather your doing 100mph + or your bike is parked its all resting on that axle. you can pretty much drop the bike on the fork tubes and your not going to bend them, trust that i know this. pretty much, take what 05zx has written and skip over it because if you break it all down, it dont make sence. but please answer me as to whay you would want to lift the bike like this and if you say to to make it easier to clean the front rim then id say do it !!!!

Yeah, that's about the only thing you can really do with that config; Just clean the rims & check your tire pressure. I only used my front stand to remove/ replace my wheel, that was it. Or wash the bike also.

thanks guys for the replies, I basically like to store the bike on both stands (dont trust people around the bike with the kickstand down). the only reason i wanted to do this is because i have two higher quality rear stands, and a front fork stand that is not up to the quality of the two. it would still seem as if the forces acting on the axle would be the same would still be the same both ways?. I see the advantage goin to the fork stand if i were to remove the front tire, but overall sturdiness seems to go to the other. And plus both rear stands match perfectly

Go for it man; I don't see any problem with that! You're also right about the bottom of the fork STAND; it is a little unstable. I would never use it by itself; only with the rear stand on first.

I don't get that, most stands lift from the bottom of the forks any way, you only need the other one if you want to pull the forks off. The first is good for maintenance and changing the front wheel.
