I am not sure about the other generations. but my 2004 636, has a weird thing you have to do when you change the oil. draining is normal, but in order for the oil to circulate properly and for your oil light to turn off you have to crack the oil filter till a drip start the bike let oil shoot out and then tighten the oil filter and stop the bike. they call this burping the oil filter.i found this to be the most ridiculous thing. i have had to do it every time i change my oil. anyone else with my gen have this annoyance.

I have an 03 which is the same style and I never have that problem it sounds like you got a bad egg my friend

 

The first time it happened it was at a dealership who was performing it so i know it is nothing i am doing wrong.

 

Some people will pre-fill the oil filter prior to install to eliminate that FI light process.

 

i dont have them problems either but i do pour alittle oil in the oil filter before installing

 

the 07 filter is on top of the motor. that sucks!!!!

that's a dumb place to stick the filter.
