RE: Nitrous on ZX-6R 636 model
As long as your nitrous is installed correctly and your bike is tuned correctly for the NOS it is safe for the engine. Most people say NOS shortens the life of you engine, but if tuned correctly with the correct amount you will have no problems. Everyone hears horror stories about how NOS blew up or ruined a motor. But usually it’s due to an improperly tuned system, to much NOS for the application, or another mechanical failure.
I am not saying I know everything about NOS but if your bike is set up correctly and you are squeezing the right amount for your motor, and keep it tuned all the time you should be fine. Just keep in mind if you do juice it your motor will rev faster so watch your RPM’s.
Just my $.02
Good luck and keep us posted.

my friend she did hit 180.......she was clearly in the red zone.....but you are right....the speedometer on these bikes are off so it was probly more like around 170......either way it was fast enough that the force coming for air that was passing me completely wanted to rip my butt off of my bike. It might not make a difference..but my bike isn't completely stock....i got a 2 brothers system exhaust followed w/ the power commander....either way i was hauling ***. But after reading all the posts i've checked out about peoples thoughts about nitrous.....i've come to a conclusion that its really not a good idea....so what i did for the power i wanted and low end torque that i wanted i decided to go up a tooth on my rear sprocket.....i'm going to end up loosing a bit of top end.....but after alot of thought......i've found that its not so much the rush of going 160,170......etc. its the rush of how fast you can get up over 100 mph. after all.....when you race a qtr. mile how often are you going to be over 160 by the end of the finish line?? lol like never if you are riding a 600cc class bike... SO JUST SO EVERY KNOWS I'M STEERING AWAY FROM NO2 AND TOP SPEED AND STEERING INSTEAD TOWARDS LOW END TORQUE...... what made me go w/ this decision is that i ride alot around town and on the highway and never on the race track. so its really the cheapest and less maintenanced way to get power......although you loose some top end but anyways how often do people take their bike over 150 160 anyway ya know..

I did see an episode on Superbikes on the Speed Channel of a shop putting Nitrous on an R6. Glad you decided to against the NO2. It puts extra load on the engine and wears parts out faster. These bikes are plenty quick & fast enough and like you said: "When do you really get a chance to go 160 anyway". The conditions must be right, i.e. clear open road with little or no traffic if you want to do it safely. Get a speedo healer to correct your speed and you should be good to go.
