Default Ninja, ZX 6R 2013, 636

Dear all
I have just just bought a Ninja ZX 6R 2013. I doln't know if I have made a mistake in getting this powerful bike as my first bike after getting the lisence, but ..it just happened..I fell in love with it...
My quetion to everyone is (as I'm still building up my riding experience)... is it normal to feel like...when I'm even driving @ low speeds (70kph) I feel the engine sound and RPM is so high ! sometimes I think I put a low gear but I discover I'm on 4th or 5th ! I feel like there's not even any difference between 2nd and 3rd gear...the ensgine sound doesn't come down at all ..besides...when shifting you feel like the bike is holding back after every shift .. I admit that when feeling this I look at the RPM and I find it below 6.
I never pushed the RPM above 8000 yet (which they say it's happy zone
but how would the engine sound be then !!!
Is what I'm experiencing normal....or anything wrong with my bike.
Thanks to all

Hello,, its normal plus you need to keep the rpms down during the first 500 miles until the 500 mile service. Ive got an 06 636 and i bought it new. just put around shift gears early and learn to find your bikes center of gravity. especially around turns. dont worry about pushing it until the road feels like its as big as you were driving in a car. on a bike at fast speed you feel like the road is very small, gety past that and realise you got three positions you can ride in the road middle right and left. goodluck.

welcome to KF

Any new ride is a learning in progress, but the basics are still the same. Get comfy with the ride. Know your expectations. Then tune the ride to match your expectations. Then keep on getting comfy with all of the changes again.

Congrats on the new ride. Just stay within' your limits

Hi Bisho, welcome to the forum. You definitely picked a beautiful motorcycle to ride. Even though, in my humble opinion, you've jumped in at the deep end. Dragone has given you some good advice. Don't worry about hurting the engine. You are thinking of your bike as you would a car. These bikes are racing machines being ridden on the road. They are built to run at high rpm's. Think of driving a formula 1 car, and what it would sound like. It takes some getting used to. Don't be afraid to ride in the higher revs, just do it when you get more comfortable and confident with your bike. Maybe find a nice straightaway safe from traffic, and practice shifting at higher rpm's. You will soon understand why many more experienced riders might cringe when you tell them you bought a zx6r as your first bike. Trust me, you will find the bike can pull plenty hard enough when you let it really stretch it's legs! It makes me grin just to think about it. Good luck with it, and be safe out there!

Default Acrobovic exhaust

One more question to all my fellow riders; ti have been advised to replace the original exhaust of my 2013 zx6r with another one (preferably Acrobovic). Is it really common to do this? Will it really effect or unleash the bike? Let alone the different sound of course..?

Go back to the basics Bisho. Are you comfy with this ride yet before dumping another $2k into it right away? I say ride the bike and enjoy it. Then when you feel it is time for upgrading the ride, you will have a good direction of attack to complete your expectations. That is a bad **** bike for sure

You wanna keep the RPMs to the manufacturers recommendation for the first couple hundred miles. Then change the oil and filter. After that ride it like you stole it.

I agree with the two previous responses. Who is it that has told you to upgrade your machine? Do they own, or ride motorcycles? It is common for sportbike riders to change the exhaust systems on their bikes. When Kawasaki built your bike, they had to abide by certain environmental laws, and noise guidelines. Plus try to keep the bike sporty, responsive, and sounding good. Replacing the exhaust with an after market one will accomplish the following. First is that it will be much lighter than the stock system. Also, since the bike has already passed it's environmental inspection, you can do away with things like catalytic converters and restrictive mufflers. Another likely outcome is that the sound of the bike may be louder. However, now that you've installed a new exhaust, you will possibly also burn more fuel and since the bike was originally set up for the stock system, you will possibly need to buy a power commander and pay a professional to reset your bike on a Dyno machine. Otherwise your bike may sputter, back fire, and explode! Okay it won't explode, but it may run poorly. My advice? Leave it the way it is. Just get out there and "Let the good times roll!" The Akrapovic is beautiful though.
