Welcome to KF. I use a KN but the frams are good too. Just make sure you use motorcycle oil not automobile oil. Good luck!

depending on weather, your riding, etc... adjust the oil weight from there.might even consider a full synthetic for your bike. and yes, make sure its specifically for bikes and not just some penzoil 1030 thats formulated for a car. k&n hasgood stuff. dont matter as long as its clean. ive used fram k and n and there was another brans but iforget the name.

K & N filters are good. So is the OEM.

BTW, I've been running Mobil 1 15w-50 full syn CAR oil in my '01 ZRX for 55k of the 59k it has on it without a problem.

I used the castrol 20/50wt dino oil with a plus 70 degree ambient temp in my 7 with good results on the track. Stock filter works well also and gets changed every 4 days of running her. (more of a what do I see kind of thing and not a necessity)

Trying the amsoil synthetic 10/40wt and k&n on the 10r right now after the break in was over. No issues with that as we speak either.

On a lot of bikes the engine oil is also the trasmission oil, which is why Motorcycle oil is formulated differently. Still a newbie on the tech stuff so somebody slap me if I'm lyin.

You're right; There are certian additives in the MC oil for the wet clutch but I haven't had any problems running Car Oils in my bike. I have used Valvoline Motorcycle oil the first time, then Valvoline Synthetic & Mobil1 on mine and 12,000 mile without any problems with my clutch or motor.
