Default New Bike for Wife

Hi guys, I've been looking for a good forum where I can get information on the 636. The bike will be for my wife. She grew up with dirt bikes. Over the last several years she's had a 998 Superhawk, Sportster, CR 125, and a LTZ 400 She attended two of Keith Codes Superbike classes when she had the Superhawk. She is a good rider but not what I would call an agressive rider. She likes to be thrilled, but not scared.

We've been talking about getting her a new sportbike and I know a little of the reputation of the 636. What she didn't like about the Honda was the size and the weight. The 636 will be an improvement in both these areas. My question is what is the power like compared to the other 600's? Does the rpm need to be keep high? Is the power flat a lower rpms? Do you think there is a bike better suited for her? It will only be for weekend canyon riding. Also, we live in So Cal and ride the canyons in Malibu and Hwy 33. I ride a new 1000 (sorry it's not green) if anyone riding a 636 would like to get together and swap bikes for a few minutes, that would be great. And of course if anyone would like to get together and just ride, that would be great too. Thanks, Double AA

GREAT QUESTION. I HAVE A BLUE 05 636 AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. THIS BIKE SITS HIGH SO YOUR WIFE MAY CONSIDER THAT AND MAKE SURE SHE CAN TOUCH THE GROUND. THIS BIKE IS POWERFUL, BUT SMOOTH UP TO ABOUT 10000 RPM WHERE IT REALLY COMES ALIVE. IT WILL RUN WITH 750'S UP TO ABOUT 145 MPH WHERE IT TOPS OUT. BIKE IS QUITE NARROW AND STEERS A LITTLE QUICKLY ON THE STOCK TIRES. I JUST CAME IN FROM RIDING AND IT IS 36 DEGREES. THAT TELLS YOU HOW MUCH FUN THIS BIKE IS TO RIDE. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH IT'S ADDICTIVE. I'M A LITTLE PREDJUDICE, BUT I BELEIVE ITS ONE OF THE BEST BIKES OUT. I RACED MX FOR 15 YEARS QUITTING IN 1988 AND THIS BIKE HAS REJUVENATED MY DESIRE TO RIDE.

XMXRACER, thanks for the reply. She's 5'4 so height is a concern, but the Honda was a little taller and she was alright.

ZXTA6RR, How about tomorrow (Sunday)? I've ridden Stunt, Piuma and Decker. It's a great ride. Let me know.

The 636 would be a great choice. I ride mine every day it isnt raining or snowing. It is definately an awesome piece of machinery and is pretty comfortable too. I would highly recommend it. I wouldn't trade mine for anything!!!!

Well, we went out Sunday afternoon and looked at a black '06' 636 and she's pretty excited. It's a little taller then she would like, but there's at least an inch that can come out of the seat, and the suspension needs to be soften up some to get the proper sag. The black really looks good. So we'll see, if she's good maybe there will be some keys under the tree this year. And if she's really bad, maybe there will be a set of keys and new leathers.
