Default new 2005 zx6r need some help

hey im new to this forum but not to riding or mechanics. i have had a few bikes manily hondas and they were always the perfect height for me. i just bought a 636 this morning and it is just a hair to tall. i havent done much research into lowering bikes because i never needed to. i know it is fairly easy, the front is not a problem just loosen the forks and drop then a certain distance right? but what about the back? and if i do lower it is it going to a.void my warentee b.hurt the bike in the long run.

i did do a search on here just to let you know but couldent find any of these specifics.

thanks for the help and i plan on being a big contributor

Lowering the bike should not void your warantee or hurt the bike long term. You can get lowering links that'll lower it 1,2, or 3 inches. I would not suggest lowering it any more than you have to. You'll lose ground clearance and the handling will be affected. Try to lower the front and back the same amount. If you lower the back too much, you'll slow the steering and if you lower the front too much, you will quicken the steering but lose high speed stability. if you lower it, it needs to be lowered equally front to back and then the suspension needs to reset.

lol, well you guys answered my question but brought up some more. what baout shaving the seat now? and i was told i could lower the bike without useing lowing links last night. is this a smart thing to do? like i siad it only needs to go down 1/4-1/2 inch. and what do you mean about reseting the suspension, it should be set damper and height wise already when i lower it i thought
thanks for the help

Yes, shave the seat. That's a better solution. Forget about resetting the Suspension if it's already set for you. I meant Set it up if it wasn't already.
