Motor Swap between an '04 and '06 Frame.
Very new to this site and actually pretty new to Kawasaki's.
I've been racing Suzuki's at Brainerd for the last decade. Half way through this past season, I finally decided to go with an '04ZX-6RR. I loved it!! The power was incredible to what I was used to. Unfortunately, in the last race of the season (a 5 hour endurance race), the engine developed a loud ticking sound. We decided to shut her down and call it a season. I've since taken a look at the situation and have realized that the Rod Bearing on #2 is shot and my gut feeling tells me that I should get a new crank as well. So...once this "little task" is completed, I'm looking at a price of over $1.5K. I've recently spoke with someone locally who dumped their '06 ZX6-RR and had it totalled out. The motor is in perfect condition, but I'm wondering if an '06 motor can be thrown into an '04 frame with little to no modifications. What about Exhaust? Will this be an issue as well? Or should I just stop asking questions now and try to find another '04 motor??
Thanks in advance for any useful information,
Billy

RE: Motor Swap between an '04 and '06 Frame.
Welcome to the forum. BRAINERD! I was there in the late 80's for a World Superbike race. Awesome track and very fast!
As far as your swap question; I think it's possible. I believe you can use your exaust but may have to swap oil pans (Maybe) The engine angle & exhaust ports are the same. You will have to use your front sprocket cover because of the speedo pick-up. You can either upgrade to the full 06 electronics (including the TB's depending onthe airbox/gas tank fit)or keep your stock system. Do you have race cams or a race ECU for the 04 you are using? if so keep them and maybe swap the heads. o4 race cams & 05-06 stock cams are the same.I was going to do this with my 03 636 to an 05 636 engine.
