Lowering question and a few mods.
Hi
I'm new to the forum and have a question about lowering the seat hight of my 05 636? I'm a short dude 5'7" and have a hard time backing up the bike into a parking spot or moving it around because my feet hardly touch the ground. I am looking to lower the height 1" to 1 1/2". I have seen lowering links but do not want to alter the bike to much. I have also put a Yosi slip on and a fender eliminator and will also be putting front Euro blinkers on this week. Hope to have some pics up soon.
Thanks for any help!

RE: Lowering question and a few mods.
I have an 06 636. I lowered mine an inch in the back and a little in the front (not sure how much in the front...my husband did it). I am 5'7' and had a terrible time backing it up, and I also didn't feel comfy on my tip toes when I was stopped. I can't tell you if the bike lost any ability, although I'm sure it doesn't corner as well being lowered. But being that I'm in Florida, and there are probably 2 rodes that you could consider "twisties", besides the on and off ramps it really doesn't bother me.
Anyways...welcome to the form and post some pics when you get a chance.

you do lose cornering ability when you lower it. i have mine lowered 1 1/2 inches and i always drag my foot pegs... but its nothing you cant get use to... im gonna have to strap my front end down, i cant keep the nose on the ground at the track today!!!!!!

Thanks for the help! I'll give it a try when the weather gets better. I took the bike out for a quick ride today because it was nice for this time of year in NY, I wish it was spring!

RE: Lowering question and a few mods.
Set your race sag (with riders weight) first. Try setting for the maximum sag first, if it's too soft you can always change it. Check your manual but it should be around 35-40mm (1.18"-1.38") front and 50mm (1.97") rear. Cutting the seat down also helps. I cut over an inch in the front and tappered it to the back, and contoured the sides so it's not quite as wide

RE: Lowering question and a few mods.
I'm 5'8" and used lowering links to drop my bike. I also lowered the triple trees in the front and though I still can't completely flat foot it, it is much more comfortable at stop lights and easier to back up. You do lose a little cornering ability when riding agressively, but I've haven't had any problems with it when riding it on the street. I tried adjusting the preload before I made the mods and didn't notice enough of a change to make a difference and also didn't care for the ride as much. Hope that helps.
