Default Info needed(ZX6RR forks)

OK. I just got my 03 ZX6RR today. I looked it over pretty well when I first checked it out. It didn't look bad. It was in an accident. I got it at a local cycle salvage shop. Basically I bought with my heart instead of my eyes because I had always wanted one of these. When I got it home I noticedthe forkslook tweaked. Looks like maybe just one side. Anyone else in this situation. I'm just wondering if its going to be as easy assliding in a new set of forks. Should I give it to a dealership and have them tell me if there is anything else bent other than the forks. Just one of those things,I wanted to lower it and lengthen the swing arm. Now I'm faced with repairs I wish I didn't have to do. And so the project begins$$$$$$$$

you will find a set of forks on e bay cheaper than having a dealer look at it and determine if its tweaked. changing the forks out is a simple deal if your mechanically inclined. if your not, it may pose some issues.

do you have any pics of the project bike ?

Yeah, I'm a photographer so I took lots of pics before I touch it. Gave it a good clean up(cause my paying job is as a detailer) after bringing it home. It didn't take much at all and it looks great, other than the dents and scuffs. Things like the frame, calipers, stuff like that are all spotless. Makes me think the original owner took really good care of it. I'll post some pics shortly.

I love looking at ebay but I don't like buying from it. I bought a rear fender for my 87 Yamaha Fazer along time ago from there. It looked good in the pic. He said it was mint. Got it for $5. Ended up costing me $55 by the time I payed everything. Of course he sent it UPS so it cost a bunch to ship. When I got it there were dents, scratches, it was twisted, it was even rusty. Makes me wondering about spending $4-$500 and having the same thing happen. I just want to take it to a pro so they can tell me thats all it is, meaning the forks. I would install them myself once I find some.

When you check the forks, look at the triple clamps also. It may beout of alighnment (twisted)but straight. Just loosen the upper triple clamp pinch bolts & center nut. Also loosen the axle pinch bolt on one side and if the forks & triples are straight, it will spring back into alignment unless it's obviously bent. The ZX6RR forks are nitride coated to you'll have to get one like it or get a pair of matcing ones from a ZX6R. If you want, you can upgrade to better05-07 forks with larger brakes. Especially if your bike is 03 Red,Blackor Green because the 07front fenders come in the same colors. I have 05-06 forks with an 07 Red front fender on my 03 636.

As far as buying and selling onebay is concerned: I have bought and sold many items on ebay (over 700 buying & selling combined) and only a couple of bad deals all from sellers. If you pay with Paypal, you can file a dispute if the item you got wasn't as described and get your money back. I have made some big purchases on ebay including my bike and a car; both over $5500. Just have to look at the sellers feedback ratings.

You guys are very helpful, thanks. Here's a couple shots of the bike. They have to be pretty small to post on here. Just stopped by my buddies place. He was checking out the bike. Seems to think the frame has a wobble in the front corner and wants me to get it looked at before I proceed. I'll be looking for a shop near by that has a bike rack for checking frames.[:@]

The wobble could be causedbecause of the mis-alignment of the forks.

I feel ya bro I bought a '04 6RR that rolled decent but didn't look right. Long story short my parts bill and scrap alum pile are doing well... wallet not so much. I ended up with new frame, forks (off 636 nitrided to hard to find),upper and lower clamp, and rear sub frame. still hoping to find a deal on a black front rim and bodywork and finally be done....

good luck with yours,
RL
PS i'll try to get my pics up soon in my original post about mine.
