Hey guys i picked up an 02 zx6r last week and i was jsut wondering if it was the 600 or the 636. I found online that 2002 was the first year of the 636 but my bike (yellow scheme) doesnt have the 636 decal like the green 02s i have seen. Also i think it says in my manual that it is 600cc's. Not a big deal, just curious. Thanks guys

 

i'm not sure, i know some of the guys here could tell ya right off the top of their heads. but check your ownership for the model #. and then look it up. mine's a 2007 zx6rP7F.

according to kawasaki.com 2002 was just a 599cc(600), and the 2003 was a 636.

 

2002 zx6r and before is a carburated 599cc aka zzr600.

03-06 zx6r were fuel injected 636cc

07+ zx6r = fuel injected 599cc

 

I guess i could ask a dealer the only thing that made me think about it was these two websites

Here's the scoop, in America there was no 636's until 2003. Over seas they did have a 636 in all of the same paint scheems as the American ones the onlyvisualdiff. is/was that 636 decal. I have a 05 ZZR600 (same bike as yours) and have been trying to find out if and when the day comes that my baby decides to die if I can fit the newer 636 engines in it w/out too many mods... But anyway that's a different tread so yes they did have 636s in '02 but unless yours came from over seas it's a 599cc. and don't forget to check out the ZZR600 section we can help ya out.
