Default Horrible News

Today was a bad day for me and my new baby of only 4 days . My dad was showing off my bike to one of his friends and somehow his friend miraculously tipped my bike over. I'm so angry right now[:@]. It turns out that the mirror was scraped (not too much of a problem) and the fairing had several scratches on the upper and lower part of it (BIG PROBLEM!). I don'tknow what to do. I can't believe that something like this actually happened. The bike was barely ridden so far and it has scratches on it.Besides getting the fairing painted, is there any other way to cover up the scratches like some type of waxor something? Any help would be appreciated.

man that is terrible...sorry to hear that...I don't know how much you can cover up with wax but I guess it kinda depends on how deap the scratches are really.

You can try plastic polish or the colored wax to buff out the scratches or ask your dads friend to replace the parts! I don't let anyone sit on or ride my bike unless they can afford to pay for it; even then, I just don't. It's not a good practice and is a good way to end friendships. It's like letting them use your girlfriend; she'll never be the same to you.

I agree man, I am very partial to my bike and have only let my brother and his brother-in-law ride it because they are experienced, have the money to repair, or have a bike they would give me if the broke mine...other than that no one touches it.

I agree with Speedracer and others, but it's tough when it's your dad. If the scratches aren't too deep, try some stuff made by 3-M, called "Perfect-It." You can find it at good body shops that have retail car care stuff; probably not at Wal-Mart or Pep Boys. There is a light formula and a dark formula, depending on the color of your paint. Make sure your paint is cool to the touch; don't use this stuff in the sun. Use a small blob on a microfiber towel, and gently rub, rub, rub. Don't aggressively try to fix the problem in 2 minutes! Take your time and use multiple coats. It won't miraculously make the scratches disappear (as seen on TV!) but it will slightly fill and feather them so they are considerably less con****uous. Follow up with the best (pure) wax you can afford. (NO abrasives!!! You don't want to un-do the work you just did.) Perfect-It isn't cheap; like 15-20 bucks a bottle, but it does a great job and is lessaggressive than rubbing compound. It also won't leave spider webs or swirls. (Works real well on cars, too!)
Your dad probably feels pretty crappy right now. I wouldn't be too hard on him. See if he'll spring for the Perfect-It.
Good luck!

His dad's friend is the one who tipped the bike over. He damaged it and he should pay for it. Period. If it was someone elses car, he would have to pay to get it fixed.

thanks guys. I can't really blame my dad for anything cause he was just showing off my bike. And believe me, I would never allow anyone to ever sit on my baby. I still remember when I was at the dealership and people were looking at my bike, I was so over protective of it. But I really had no control over the issue because my bike is in NY at home and I go to college in Pennsylvania so I couldn't do anything about it. I would love to make his friend pay, but I don't think my dad wants to cause he's been a friend of his for quite a while.

Besides that..I can't keep thinking about it cause it just makes me feel even worse. I will look into the "Perfect-it" stuff and hopefully it will get rid of most of the scratches. I will let you guys know what happens. Thanks for all the help.

I would think if your dad's friend was a decent guy (not saying he isn't)and a friend of the family for a long time he would offer to pay for what he did...that is kinda low if you ask me. Just my opinion...it still sucks though.
