First trackday coming up!

RE: First trackday coming up!
As promised, here are a few pics of my first track day. Unfortunately (as seen in the photos), I did not drag knee. While it wasn't nessecarily my goal - it would make the pictures a lot cooler!
Hopefully I'll get some time to do a write up, but for now I'll say this. Get to a track if you can! The speed you hit these corners at is incredible. I do my fair share of zippin around the streets, but you take the traffic, road hazzards and variables out - then add an extra 24ft of asphalt to widen the lane, and you WILL go fast! Passing someone at speed, through a corner is friggin great feeling, and impressive when it happens to you. Also, you want to truly learn braking? It's a whole new ballgame at the track - scary fun! YES, I will definitely be going again.

Re: What kind of track doesn't make you cover up your lights even if they're not running?

Congrats on your track time. A great place to learn and hone skills.
I would recommend taping the lights anyways. You would feel bad red flagging someone elses track time due to clean up.

+1 Carmi & Dragone.
You're right, thanks. Good advice. I'll tape up next day.
I missed the last session of the day to some guy who fouled up an oil filter change just before his last session (which was the session before mine). Apparently, he left the old seal on when he changed is oil filter, so there were 2 seals, which apparently allows you to lay down a really nice path of oil through ~4 turns without knowing it. They were licensing new AFM racers that day; a few of them, one of the instructors, and one of my friends all went down before the flags got things stopped. It started in turn 1, which is a high speed left coming off of the longest straight. Unfortunately, as there were about 8 guys behind him on the straight, about 6 of them went down. Most were slowing as the first few went down, but the oil was laid down in a wide path right through the line. All ok,but a lotta plastic to be replaced.

Damn. Goodquestion. Probably not for a few months. Probably can't do it more than once every 6 weeks or so. Kinda wished I'd started at the beginning of the season rather than the end - hard to plan it with Tday and Xmas coming up.I don't have a lot of vacation earned yet, and most of the days seem to be weekdays. The weekend days are more expensive.Plus, seems like it rains up here in winter - WTF?
Of course this being said, a little arm twisting and someone selling their slot, and I'll consider it...
I'll give you a head's up next time......or lemme know when you're goin.......
