hey guys im new to the forum and new to kawasakis i just got a 01 zx6r and the previouse owner made it into a "street fighter", not my style....so im looking for some fairings i was told that the 05 zzr600 fairing are pretty much the same and will bolt up, just wondering if anyone has done this or if its true.

I'm not sure. Why not just pick up a good aftermarket set for a 2001 ZX6R? It will probably not be cheap, $700 or so, but atleast it will look like a proper bike. When I compare the look of both fairings, they do look very similar. But they cost exactly the same. Unless you have found a set of fairings for a 2005 zzr600 really cheap, I would order the 2001 fairings for it. You could call and ask the companies that sell fairings if they're the same or not. Anyways, good luck, and congrats on the new ride. I ride an '05 Zx6r and I love it!

 

The more I look at the two body styles, I would say the 2001 ZX6r and the 2005 ZZr600 body styles are identical.

thanks, There is someone localy that has a full set for an 05zzr and they are pretty cheap but since I dont have any fairings at all on my bike i wasnt sure if they were the same and since this is my first bike im not really sure about bike stuff. i just dont want to buy them and have them not work. thanks for the info

Street Fighters are nortorious for trimming off the mounts for the fairings. I'm not very familar with the 01 but on my 05 there are at least 2 mounting tabs that are welded to the frame. And if those are cut or grinded off there is no way to mount any fairings.

 

they are still there on mine one has a bolt broken off it it so ill have to drill and tap it but the other side looks good, i just have to find some fairings now the ones i was going to buy sold before i could get to them im thinking of doing some race fairings and doing some fiberglass work to put lights in

 

The price for street fairings and race fairings are almost the same. If it were me, I would buy a set of street fairings. Why go through the trouble of trying to cut holes for head lights, tail lights, mirror placement, signals etc.. It would be a lot easier to just buy the street body work. The only difference between the race and street bodywork in many cases, is the lights. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

 

+1 OEM is the way to go if you want to preserve your resell but they cost $$$. If aftermarket fairings are your only way financially get the ones you need, you will thank us later.
