Not sure what you're talking about. Do you mean a side exit exhaust? Elaborate. Better yet, f you have already done it, post it in the DIY section with pictures.

RE: downpipe mod => gp exhaust
well, i recall someone mentioning they made a gp shorty side pipe for their 636. Posted pics and I recall one poster said he made one too, that it was really simple and didn't want to share it or everyone would do it.
anyways, i modifed my hotbodies exhaust to be a side pipe, but threw it away for my new pipe which is better. I discovered that the downpipe has the perfect curve to work as a side pipe; it just needs to be sliced with a dremel.
i was asking if this was common knowledge or if others r still clueless about this simple mod.

Just remove the mid/up/downpipe that connects the cats to the muffler.
Reinstall the pipe heading out, parallel to the swingarm.
Cut a side slice with the dremel.
Install a baffle/muffle.

But it would increase noise too much as in the picture. You would definitely need a muffler. Good idea on the weight savings and the heat issue though. It would look similar to my 03 exhaust with the 05 swingarm maybe. Have you installed a muffler on yours yet?
