RE: Difference between ZX6e and zx6r?
The ZX-6E is a sport tourer, it will have a full 2-person seat, softer rear suspension and a detuned motor without ram-air. The ZX-6R is more of a sportsbike whereas the ZX-6E is a sport tourer designed with 2 in mind, but still a great bike.

Are you graduating from a smaller bike/ 250 & How long have you been riding it? If so, the ZX6E will be fine if you get a good deal on it. It's much bigger and heavier than your 250 but you can learn a lot on it about riding, handling and control. The newer ZX6R's are much lighter, more powerful, quicker and faster that the ZX6E models. The late 80's ZX6E's were huge compared to the 600/ 636's now but they had a lot of power back then too. You can always trade up to a 03 & newer ZX6R later. It's always best to graduate to a bigger bike after you have reached the limits of a smaller one; it'll make you a better rider in the long run especially if you want to race.

RE: Difference between ZX6e and zx6r?
I've actually never had a bike. I made the name with 250 because I was originally looking into them but after reading up I have decided to start with something a little bigger. Right now it's between that ZX6E I mentioned and a 2002 GSXR 600. I've heard all different things about the GSXR. Some people come right out and say it's a bad beginner bike. Lots of other people say it depends if the rider can be responsible. I buy the second one much more because the rider determines what's going to happen more than anything. I'm not planning on getting a GSXR so I can go around doing wheelies and breaking my *** and messing up my bike.

I recommend getting a ninja 250 or 500 and learn on that, then switch to a bigger bike; IMPO. It's much easier to learn and make mistakes on a smaller bike than a Middleweight Superbike like the ZX6R/RR's. I started on a Red 1982 Honda MB5 which was a 50cc 2 stroke motorcycle. That bike taught me more about riding & control than any other bike. I used to tear up the Oakland Berkeley hills in 82-83. Couldn't touch me downhill, but uphill I'd get eaten.

i am with speed on this one, the six is a lot of bike for a beginner. start with a smaller one that will allow you to develop good riding skills. would highly recommend take a motorcycle saftey course and the most important thing, make sure you have enough money to buy the proper riding gear at the time of purchace of the bike. good luck on what ever you buy and ride safe. years of enjoyment to come
