My car battery is always draining since I rarely drive it. In fact, the last time I filled up was the week after I got back from seeing my parents in Missouri mid May. Not kidding. It's been around two months since I filled up.[8D]

They do make gel filled motorcycle batteries. A lot more expensive though.

Damn! $100 for your battery? I replaced the battery in the KZ for $24 new on sale. Starts like a champ!

100$ for an optima maybe - a stock replacement should be 30-50

If a battery will not hold a charge, it's either an old battery (electrolyte used-up) or there's a problem with your bike. Check all wiring. If you have any "current drain" gizmos (alarms, other stuff which draws juice when your bike is shut-off) take a look at how much they draw and do the math. If you have gizmos that draw too much juice even when the bike is running (high voltage bulbs, neon, radios, radar detectors, laptops, tv's, video cameras, whatever else I've seen people crap up their rides with..) your alternator may not be able to keep up with the current drain. (like the offroad guys who have 500 lights on their vehicles and can't understand why their voltage regulators keep toasting.) Also, check for proper wire (gauge) being used for your gizmos. Those little moto batteries do a hell of a job considering their size, when properly applied. Take a meter and check your output from the alternator. Honda's are notorious for having crap charging systems. (I think they must use Lucas stuff. Europeans like warm beer because they have Lucas refrigerators. Sorry; Land Rover humor.) Buy a battery tender, but don't expect it to excuse you from using common sense in keeping your battery and bike inproper mechanical condition.

i should comment that the first time i accidentally drained my battery by pulling the key out when it was in the "P" position instead of the "lock" position.

i still don't understand the purpose of that key position, its locked but with the brake like on. why?

That's a european carryover. I think there's some law or something which requires a (temporarily) parked vehicle to have a rear brake lamp on. (???)
