I have 16000 miles on my bike now (03 636) And It has a friggen AWFUL rattle! low low low rpm it doesnt do it but anything over 5000rpm its insane. Its been getting worse and now its really bad. It sounds like its coming from where the Cam Chain Tensioner is so im guessing I need to get a manual one or a new OEM one. Anyone else think thats my problem or could it be something else?

 

i had this same problem & after soem research i decided to replace mine with a ape manual tensioner & it resolved my ticking,rattling sound & the motor is back quiet again

 

yeah, never ran a manual tensioner yet but have known a lot of people that did run one. But after every race to readjust? If you get it too tight, causes premature wear on the cam bearings? One thing may or can lead to another. I am not hard core but I just pop the ride into 3rd gear, roll her backwards and pop the clutch. The CCT resets itself to a point and I go from there.

 

Can I just buy a new oem CCT and that will fix everything? I dont really care to mess around with the manual ones but if thats the route I have to go then ill do it

 

actually, unless the spring gets too soft from extended heat cycles, just replace the nylon liner and the spring at the same time.
