back again with some major issues
Ok so this is my first time back to the forums since i first joined. I was on a hiatus for a while with my bike since I was still in school but its over with and it was time to get my bike on the road for the first time..I had a minor setback with an accident in April but i got my bike out of the shop on the 22nd of May and I spent the next day riding and learning to use the clutch...It was so much fun..I rode my bike to work and i came that night happy and excited for the next day. The next day though as i brought my bike out to practice more it began to shut down on me. I figured it was the battery since i was trying to avoid that problem for a while now. I bought a new battery and put it in. It was fine but it still wasnt starting. We then realized it needed gas. My dad who didn't know any better put regular gas in it so i have towastte all that gas first be4 i can put premium in it. Anyway it was starting fine again and i took it out for practicing ...Then i had a problem of not finding neutral...There are times when i cant find neutral on that bike at all I would downshift into 1st gear and then try to find neutral and will never find it...My friend tried it and he found it within 10 mins. We then road to a parking lot to practice and i was fine. then as we plan a mini trip I again at a red light couldnt find neutral. I ended up riding the bike home on 1st gear all the way home. Another problem was that it was ideling at 4000-5000 rpms 1ST GEAR! I knew something was wrong. So my question is if a 2000 kawasaki ZX-6R always has a problem finding neutral or can i fix it or do i have to live with that problem forever. Also my second question is should i contact the place that fixed my bike and tell them my issues or should i just keep trying to fix it the upcoming days...I dont knw what to do personally so i reach out to the forums. can somebody please help green hawk because he is dying to get on the road...

RE: back again with some major issues
It's hard to say exactly what the problem really is because you are such a new rider. Lack of experience (No offense). It's hard to pinpoint if the problem is with the bike or your inexperience (No offense again). It is possible that something got damaged in the accident; a throttle cable got kinked or shifter took impact. It also could be the place that worked on the bike. These bikes are very difficult to get into neutral if they are moving. It has to come to almost a complete stop to find nuetral (as designed). If the chain is loose, it will be harder and to shift also. Clutch lever adjustment is important too; make sure you have enough freeplay & not sticking in the cable at the lever. The throttle should also return to the closed position freely with the bars straight. Get an owners manual or a service manual and read up. Practice more in the parking lots and in your neighborhood. Get a an experienced rider to help you learn. Maybe there is a forum member near you who is willing to help.

As far as your idle did you close down the choke after it warmed up. With the choke out it will idle right around 4k so that could be it. Little confused on your finding neutral problem. Care to elaborate? You said you couldn't find neutral so you rode home in first. Do you mean you couldn't shift from first into second? (Neutral is between the two gears but with the bike moving it will shift straight from first into second.) Other than that make sure you are stopped and gently ease it up and it should pop into neutral if not Speed probably hit it right on the money gotta check those cables and adjustments.

P.S. Where are you located, could be someone close to you to give you a hand.
