Default 636 forks on a 02 zx6r

ok so I was wanting a set of inverted forks for my bike.... looking around on ebay I see a complete front end of a 04 636 cheep money too. I picked them up and figured if they wouldn't work that I could re-sell them.
well off came the old front end

checking measurements I see that the lower race and bearing are the same but the top set up is different. Then I check the stem length.. they are the same.
I pressed out the stem outa both clamps and press the zx6r stem in to the 636 clamp. re-installed a new seal and race.
now I assemble the front end with all the new stuff.. to check clearances and all.
the clip-on's have to be moved to the top of the tree cause they are hitting the air ducts at half turn.
brake res. needs new mounting bracket.
caliper's need to be spaced 10mm to use the 02 zx6r wheel and disk brakes
ignition mount needed to be cut down to allow it to lock and so it would sit higher in the upper clamp.
staring stops need to be fabed.

here is the pix. of the test fitting before I took it apart to give to my buddy to have him tig weld on a set of stops to the lower clamp.

anything can be done ,but there comes a point were is it worth it, not that what you are doing is bad,but you probly have affected the geometry alot, shimming wheel/brakes the factory likes a tight fit so be careful till you are sure about all speeds/turns/braking. Is the legs longer or shorter? And inverted forks are heiver than regular ones.So you probly put on 10 to 20 lb up front. I recomend getting the 636 wheel and calipers instead of shims. the extra weight up front will help keeping the front down on the track, but if you like wheelies it will probly be a little harder to get up, and defintley change the balance point. You will have to be more vertical witch will bring you closer to fliping back. I thought about this same mod ,getting the parts from a Z1000 ,and my bike requires alot less to swap, but I decied I should of bought the z1000 if I realy wanted that set up. Hope it turns out well for you let me know please.

the 02 forks are 30'
the 636 forks are 30.5'

the rear of the bike is dropped 1/2'
and I had the 02 forks raised up a 1/2' trough the clamps, so the bike was drop 1/2' all around

the 636 forks are raised up trough the clamps 1' dew to clip-on's being on top of the upper clamp
so this brings me back to the 1/2' drop all around

the spacers on the brakes were machined by a friend of mine and fit real good. He has been a machinist for 15=years he said that there should be no problem with doing what I'm doing

technically I'm not doing this for a big performance thing. more to just have something different, and trick [sm=shades.gif] a little bling if you will...

ummm.. I don't know yet, I have yet to test ride it ..

I will in the spring when most of the snow is gone and the roads clean up a little.
I usually don't go out till it rains at least 2 times, to get some of the sand off the road

this was last weekend [:'(]
