Default 600 mile service

My name is Michael and I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 07 zx6r a couple of weeks ago and its now time for the 600 mile service. I was wondering if it was completely necessary for this service to be performed by the dealer cause they wanted to charge me $200. Also I was wondering the same thing about the valve adjustment at 1000 miles or something like that. I was just wanting to save some money but i didnt want to void my warranty or anything. Thanks

my dealer didnt charge me for mine last month, why on earth would they do a stupid thing like that, if they service the bike while it's still in warranty then you are more likely to bring it back, or even buy another from them. They did however try to tell me that I wasnt knowledgable enough to put my own exhaust on and that I would most likely screw it up... where's the ****** smiley when you need it... because they told me that i havent bought any parts from them, and i'm going to a different dealer for my warranty stuff.

Just have proof of oil, filter reciepts on file, go through the daily checks and just verify that tq specs on the checklist are done and verified. Doing these checks per the manual will not void any warranty.

Every dealership I know of charges for the first service...both in Clarksville/Nashville TN, and here in Cincinnati.

Yes zzrick, they all charge. Meant to say that spending the $200 in tools/manual is a good deal in the long term. Not just taking the ride in for a quick check for $200

i dont know about all the valve stuff but my dealer said all they do is a oil change and routine maintainence like adjust the chain and lube it. i took my bike back to the dealer once for the spedo problem and they let me ride home untill the part came in then i just brought the part in and swapped it, went home and hooked her up. id find a new dealer man.

Most dealers will just change the oil, filter and adjust and lube the chain if that. Yes,$200;it's a rip-off for the 600 mile check-up.
