Yeah done the 174MPH indicated on the 636 so probably a real speed of just under 150MPH once you take into account the speedo is way off up that high... Wind resistance increases exponentially so the difference every mile per hour that fast is pretty impressive so those 1000s hitting 180+ is a pretty big statement even though it's only 30miles an hour faster it takes a lot of muscle to push faster with that kind of wind resistance building up. Especially considering if I remember correctly bikes aren't exactly aerodynamic.
My hats off to anyone that's topped out a 1000+ ... my indicated 174 was about as fast as I'll ever want to go lmao.

I heard that Mav, my 280 lbs A$$is like a freakin sail at those speeds. Anything on the street over a 100-115 mph is brown pants time. Fun though

SportRider magazine did a wind tunnel test and a top speed test with the ZX10, ZX14, Hayabusa & GSXR1000 and found that it would take 240 Horsepower to reach 204 MPH. I think the Hayabusa hit 189MPH MAXwith the bike de-restricted and so did the ZX14. As far as aerodynamics; it depends on the size and tuck position of the rider. They had a taller rider get better airflow & less drag while tucked in than a shorter rider because he was able to scoot all the way back against the back of the seat for less turbulence. If you have the aerodynamic hump in the leathers, it's even better slipstream.

Ok you guys can find this out very easily take your bike and put it on a dyno. Your stock 636 will not go 170 sorry to bust some you guys bubble it's just not possible. It took thousands of dollars to get my bike to those speeds and a tremously small rear gear and the only track I could do it at was daytona in the tri oval coming off nascar turn four. Thespeedo was saying 186 but on the dyno at daytona with $16 a gallon race fuel custom mapping an every bell and whistle avaible on the market it came to 171 at 119 horse power to the rear wheel. The dyno doesn't lie and i had my bike down to 366lbs. Stock you should be around 150's some where after you calulate the mistake in the stock speedo. Once the bike goes over 120 that thing is a total goof. I pulled the stock speedo offimediately that stupid digital tack was the worse idea I had ever seen for a racer. It's an extremly fast bike but my 1000 GSXR which has over a third more engine only really gets in the 190's with thousands of dollars in mods. I found the 186 top off not the reachable on the dyno stock. The factory knows this when they put the bikes out these speedos are junk. do you guys remember the scam yamaha did with the 06 r6 they they claimed reved to 17,500rpm only to put it on the dyno and find it did'nt or barely broke 16,000 depending on the bike. Manufactures know speed sells bikes so they'll give a good speedo up to reasonable road speeds but after that propoganda to sell more bikes comes into play. Your average joe doesn't take his bike to the dyno four times in a weekend like racers do. Trying to get every edge for every little bit of advantage. The bikes you watch on the AMA races are no where near what they sell you for less than 10,000 off the show room floor. They have change every possible thing you can changeto stay legal for supersport rules and regs. Which is a whole lot. Go try to dragknees on the track with your stock bridgestonesand watch how quickly you'll lowside becauseof grip loss.I put almost as much money into my bike as I paid for it to begin with. Just to be able to watch the factory teams smash my lap times. I've raced for a long time now and once you get to a point where consistancy isn't an issue and horse power and money is the only advantage the factory teams to compete against each other. Chaz davies and Martine Cardinez are just as skilled as any rider out there but even the best privateer teams can't compete with factory because they have to worry more about beating each other for sales so they never tell you exactly what extra parts they custom designed just for thier race bikes then they dial down the cost of the parts make it cheaper and sell it to the public. Fact of the matter is Roger haydens ZX6RR you watched on TV running 170+ mph down straights is not your bike and even mine with over 15,000 dollars invested into my bike it's twice as bad *** as my bike but the factory know people want Roger Haydens but if it was $22,000 the quanity of sales would drop dramatically when your toy starts to cost more than you car you need. So the goofed up speedo is a way to to make you feel like yo have Roger haydens bike. Just some food for thought people.

I hit an "Indicated" 170 on my 03 with the Race kit ECU & Cams but actual is more like in the mid150's. I have a Speedo Healer and my GPS but haven't had either on the bike when I did the 170 indicated. Maybe I just don't wan to find out exactly how much slower I'm going. 170 MPH sounds much better! The manufacturers make the Speedos & Tachs more optimistic for the sales that's for sure. Also, if it reads a faster speed than actual, you are likely to go below the speed limits and there would be less liability and the statistics will be lower for speeding n motorcycles. It's all about marketing like Brian said.

i hit 171 indicated on my 03 636(before i got the pipe and pcIII)while my buddies from work on a 06 gsxr 1000 a guy on 05 zx10 and a busa and an older 03 gsxr 1000 pass me buy very quickly and kept pulling. i had a brand new rear tire also. them liter bikes might only go 20 miles per hour faster but they sure get there IN A HURRY way more than smaller bikes.

If you have re-geared your bike with a smaller front and/ or larger rear sprocket, the speedo will be even more inaccurate. And if the rear tire is worn or as a smaller circumference. GPS speed is most accurate.
