2001 zx-6R what i should know?
Hey,
I am currently paying on a 2001 zx-6R, it will be my first bike, i was wondering if there is anything i should know about the bike? Should i have it looked over you think? The guy selling it took me out for an awesome 45 minute ride. Going from 0-100 so i know everything is in working order.
Anyone have a preference of brand or type when it comes to cleaning a bike? Chain? Wax? I've tried the detailing page but it doesn't talk much about brands. Though i have just started looking.
Anyway, i'll be your sponge if you want to throw out any information. Thanks!

RE: 2001 zx-6R what i should know?
I have the same bike, 1 year older. Mine's carburated so I think yours it too. Carbs can be different to work on but they're probably fine unless its got a ton of mileage.
Theres nothing specific you should know about the bike, just check it over for general wear. Look at the front pads, look at the sprocket for hooks, make sure the chain isn't too loose (1.5 " of play max i think), make sure it shifts smooth, rev it up in neutral to make sure the rpms come back down promptly and that it doesn't linger. Obviously make sure you're not riding on bald tires. Make sure its got enough oil and coolant in it as well as brake fluid(you'll know by feel if the brake fluid is down).
Keep the chain lubed up and change the oil frequently and it should go forever.

Welcome to KF and take all vermont's advice. Also check out the ZZR600 section it's the same bike as yours so we may be able to help you out if needed. Oh yeah one more piece of advise keep the rubber side down. have fun and gear up.

I use the chain wax stuff from bel-ray, if brands are what you were looking for. +1 to everything AHUFFY said as well. ZZR600 is the same bike so we live in both sections.[8D]

Honda polish and Plexus are good things to have on hand for a detail job. Simple green to get off the tough stuff and ajax liquid dish soap to give it a washing.
