2001 ZX-6R Shorty Pipe
Hey guys I have a 2001 ZX-6R with the long sidepipe. Looks exactly like the ZZR 600 exhaust. I was wondering if anyone had attempted what I want to do. I really like the shorty pipe style of the new R6's where the muffler just sticks out from the fairing. I know I'll have to make something to hook up to the header, but I was wondering if anyone had done this and knows a good can to use. I'm not looking for it to be loud, or louder than it already is (D&D slip on from previous owner). Also I was wondering that since I'm on a carb'd bike, how much I'll have to mess with the jetting, since I'll be cutting about 18 inch's of midpipe out, or how the powerband will be effected. I was just looking for ideas and advise. Thanks for any help.

Maybe the R6 Slip-On pipe will fit. I have seen shorty's on 03-04 636's. I think it's made by www.Pineboxonline.com exhausts and it may fit the earlier ZX6R's. I have a sort Yoshimura Carbon TRS on mine.

The pinebox exhaust, it's very loud! You will lose some low-end & midrange power also.

I'm looking for a shorty like that but I don't want it to be super loud like that, but thats a start. I wonder if sine there wold be so little back pressure if I couldn't neck it down some to compensate, since I usually do canyon carving and need more on the bottom vs the top.

Neckingthe midpipedown will regain some bottom and mid range power. I had an FMF that I Custom modified with a Carbon sleeve and that pipehad great bottom & mid range power and wasn't very loud either. Here's a picture:

That looks good but I want the muffler to just be poking out like the R6. I really like undertails, but there is pretty much no way I can do that without major modification including swingarm. I was just looking to check for clearance under and man they squeeze the header just next to the oil pan sump, to gain any type of room I'd have to modify the headers try to bend them to keep them the same length but shorten their overall physical displacement. I wonder if fitting a glasspack where the midpipe is then attaching the muffler to that would increase the back pressure and quite it down.

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knew of a different oil pan sump that will fit my bike, the one on there now doesn't allow for anything but the exhaust headers to pass on the right side and the oil pan drops down on the left had side. Maybe if I can find a a different oil pan and sump, I can use a later model premuffler to keep the length of the pipe.

Maybe 03-06 636? I think the 03-04have adifferent sump than the 05-06 but bolt up the same as the earlier ZX6R's. Best bet to make sure would be to compare the oil pan gaskets at the dealer.
