1993 zx6
Hey guys i need some advice. Im totally new to motorcycles and looking hard at what would be my first bike. A dealer has a 93 zx6 ninja with 18.5k on it for $2700.00. I have emailed about the condition, maintenance, etc... So is this a decent price if it comes back clean with no scratches, damage or whatever? Ive been looking hard for a year now for the right starter bike for the right price and this is def. one in that range. I just really dont know much about the history of this engine or much about the bike though because ive been focusing on Katanas and the Suzuki GS500's. Thanks for any input.

If you can check it out make sure you check the tranny. These models are well known to lose 2nd gear quite early. Kaw finally got a handle on it but not until about '98 so that is just my 2 cents! hope it works out for you!

Well, Kawi has the strongest motors out there, that has been common knowledge for a very long time... I have 40k on mine and she still runs like new. Dealer of course is going to bank off of a used bike. Just like TX said, you can prob get it for 2200-2300 out the door with them paying for plates. Most used bikes from dealers usually offer some kind of warranty. Here, they give you 30 days or 1,000 miles warranty on used one.
That ZX6 is twice the bike the katana is. The early katana 600's were air an oil cooled only. That significantly reduces engine life. The ZX6 is watercooled, and good for 80,000 + miles. I have a friend that put over 300,000 on a water cooled bike. The engine still ran good. but the tranny shelled. It was all hiway miles, but still impressive.
GL man, let us know if you get it!!
That was a pretty sweet heffay!!

I sold my 91 Ninja ZX-6 with 44,000 miles on it in mint condition with a pair of jardine slip-ons for $1200. It was a great bike, very fast for the year and a sportbike race and comparo winner in every class for 4 years running. You cannot go wrong with a ZX-6D1- ZX-6D4 (90-94) they are great bikes. I would offer lower, but don't seem really interested in the bike or they won't budge.
If you get it. The Jardine RT-ONE slip-ons sound incredible on that bike. Plus you can keep the centerstand with just a pair of slip-ons.
